One key characteristic of an autonomous person is that they are able to engage deeper in relationships, even if it means they have fewer but more rooted friendships. Relationships combat loneliness, spur us toward positive pursuits, and assist us in maintaining healthy balance within our life.

Set up your child for college-ready successes by making your parent-child relationship a priority. Engage in fun activities that your teen enjoys, don’t shy away from the tough (or awkward) conversations and encourage your child to hang out with their friends! Life is better together so foster friendships with and for your child. Then, when your babies moves off to the next chapter of life, he/she will be prepared to jump right into building relationships no matter where they are. (Don’t fear, they will stay in touch with you from a distance too!)
